A Voice for the High Andes

A complete solar-powered FM station for a Quechua-speaking region of the Peruvian Andes, run by a local church network.

The need

In the high Andes, Quechua-speaking communities are scattered across valleys that a pastor can reach only on foot, a few villages a month. Most have no Scripture in Quechua and no regular teaching.

The solution

A network of local churches holds a broadcast licence and a plan: a solar-powered FM station in a central valley town, with programming in Quechua and Spanish produced by their own people. Galcom will supply the studio, transmitter, antenna, and training — a station the partners own and run.

The goal

$60,000 CAD puts the station on the air and includes 400 fix-tuned radios for the most remote villages, so the first listeners are guaranteed the day the signal starts.
